Friday My Town Shoot Out - Premier Attraction

Kent in Montana (http://tresoaks.blogspot.com/) chose My Town's Premier Attraction for this week's topic. He tells us, "Since we all live in such different places, I thought a good theme might be to show what your hometown is most noted for." You can see the other places featured by clicking on the camera in the sidebar on your right.

Well, Paducah is Quilt City. First, foremost and famously.

It is home to the Museum of the American Quilters Society. And if you think of quilts as grammy's old mothballed fuddy duddy stuff, think again. Click on that link and take a gander on what is housed here, right here in Paducah, Kentucky.

The annual Quilt Show attracts around 37,000 visitors to Paducah in April. Retailers do better during Quilt Week than Christmas. Our UPS man always takes his vacation during that week. It is wild. The Quilt Museum is right downtown. Traffic is clogged. There are routinely cars heading the wrong way on any number of one way streets! But we love quilters, yes we do!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention The Paducah Bank and Trust.

It is still un-conglomerated, and it won some huge award and honor for being chosen as one of the best places to work in the entire United States of America! I think that is really something.
There is so much more, but if we're talking PREMIER attraction, the Quilt Museum is it.
Now, I don't know about y'all, but after a week's worth of training for a new job, I am going to put on my red flannel jammies with the paw prints and bones design, I am going to lie down, and I am going to hug my sweet hounds!

  1. Very cool! We have been walking down that way with the hounds. I will second the flannal jammies and snuggling with the hounds.

  2. Hey Mom's looking for a new job -- maybe Paducah's bank would be a great place for her! She was working at one of the worst places.. yuck... she'd come home and tell me some horror stories. Too bad it used to be great, she said.

    Stay warm!

  3. Aren't quilts just sensational? This is a really nice thing to be famous for.
It's been awhile since I made a quilt, but maybe it's time to dig out the old pattern books and start something.

  5. I know two quilters (a friend & my daughter-in-law) who would LOVE to come to Paducah in April!
Apart from coming to meet you & Bill & the Waggle I'd rather go & see some woodcarvings somewhere else - needle & thread? No way, not me!

Hope the first week at work / school went well.

  8. Thank you for the tour of the Quilt Museum and the true works of art housed there. I enjoyed the video and lovely gifts available on their website. If I were to pick one small thing to buy from the gift store it would be the quilt book marker! Thanks again for showing us a part of your world.

Hugs to you, your hubbie and the Waggle!!

  9. Always thought that "Inch by Inch" could be a quilter song as well as a gardner's song, since the work is so intense and the results so beautiful. Alas, muzzer is not either a gardener or a quilter. She is trying to learn to knit. Teka is helping. Can you spell disaster?

We hope the first week went well. Kisses and Hugs to the waggle and the hoomans in your wonderful town.

  11. Thanks for the link to the quilting museum - a wonderful place to have as a premier attraction. I dabble in quilting, it's got to be simple and easy to figure out! But I love beautiful quilts, some are real works of art, aren't they?
I started a new job in June, can identify very easily with your current feelings! You can do it!!
